The teaser trailer for the upcoming Plan 9 from Outer Space remake, to be called simply Plan 9,  is out and, wonder of wonders, it looks good. Hell, it looks great. If they can make a movie that lives up to the trailer (it doesn’t start shooting until next year, the trailer was just shot to mark the 50th anniversary of the original) this could be an amazing film. Trailer embedded after the break, and visit the Plan 9 site for more info.

Those clever bastards over at Bloody Disgusting somehow scored an exclusive on the second “Sarge Speaks” viral video for George A. Romero’s upcoming Survival of the Dead. Luckily, they are nice and it’s embeddable, thus it is embedded for you after the break. (Bloody Disgusting)

Fans of Max Brooks brilliant zombie series get the next installment on October 6, when The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks, a graphic novel entry in the series, is released. Damn cool. And there’s a trailer, embedded after the break.

One of Left 4 Dead 2‘s writers answers Kotaku‘s “Justify Your Game” challenge, where they task developers to justify a game’s existence in thirty seconds or less. And you can watch it, along with all that other great video (come on kids, say it with me), after the break. (Kotaku)

After reading this interview with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, I am even more excited about the TV show in development. He’s executive producing, so it should be great. (Comic Book Resources)

Zombie Jesus says it’s his turn to eat your flesh in Prince of Pieces, an upcoming comic book and movie. Word is Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra is set to star. (Fangoria and Dread Central)

Word is that after Resident Evil Afterlife wraps, the next flick is set to be a reboot of the franchise, tentatively titled Resident Evil Begins. (Bloody Disgusting)

So, Nazi-zombie flick The 4th Reich is supposedly going to be 3D. (Horror-Movies.ca)

There’s an upcoming “illustrated film” version of Xombie: Reanimated in development. (Horror-Movies.ca)

Just days after they blogged about the teaser trailer, Quiet Earth has the entirety of Spanish zombies-in-a-mall short Zombies and Cigarettes for you to watch. And thanks to the magic of embedding, so do I — find it after the break. (Quiet Earth)

The Austin, Texas-based Fantastic Fest has a fantastic lineup: REC 2, Survival of the Dead, Zombieland, Doghouse and The Revenant are all scheduled. Damn, I wish I could get away for the September 24 to October 1 festival. That’s just a crazy selection of zombie action. (Dread Central)

This week’s DVD and Blu-ray releases include the George A. Romero directed Creepshow. (Fangoria)

Our friends at Zombie Command have a bunch of Pontypool facts for you. Good info for the all-zombie trivia contest in your future.  (Zombie Command)

Catch up with what the “helicopter zombie” from Dawn of the Dead has been up to. (Penn Live)

The World War Z-inspired short film Plague has a sweet teaser trailer out, and you can find it after the break. (Quiet Earth)

I like zombies in music videos, so I’d answer the titular question in Chickenhawk’s song “I Hate This, Do You Like It?” with a resounding “Yes!” Your mileage may vary, depending on your taste for hardcore-leaning, scream-filled rock. You can watch it after the break, and read all about it here. (Fangoria)

Take a trip to the past and recall the forgotten zombie game Zombie Revenge. (Destructoid)

Finally, Happy Labor Day. Remember, corporations don’t make things, capital doesn’t make things — workers make things.

The first clip from George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead is out. I’m holding off, because I prefer to see the film whole, but don’t let that stop you if you don’t want to wait — it’s embedded after the break. (Dread Central)

More details on Left 4 Dead 2 are here! This time, it’s the “Dark Carnival” campaign, where you’ll find a clown zombie who can call for backup; a new boss, the Jockey, who can ride a player and steer him away from his group; and other stuff, such as a guitar that can be used as a melee weapon. (Eurogamer)

And here’s another take on the same stuff from Left 4 Dead 2 from our friends at Kotaku. (Kotaku)

Speaking of zombie games, how about a game focused on finding and fortifying a location against the zombie hordes? It’s called Fort Zombie (lame name, I know) and it’s a game I have been waiting for for a long, long time. Don’t screw it up, folks. (Worth Playing)

Sick of remakes yet? Well get sicker, because someone is working on a Plan 9 from Outer Space remake. On the bright side, they’d be hard pressed not to improve on the original. (Horror-Movies.ca)

In Atlanta the September 12? How about going to a zombie symposium? There’s a presentation, a couple of movie showings and a dance. Sounds fun. (Examiner.com)

If you’re headed to Universal Studios Hollywood this October, you are in for a serious zombie treat – an elaborate zombie-rich “scare zone” called “The Containment Zone” is set for a 16 night run beginning October 2. (Bloody Disgusting)

If you’re going to the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle this weekend, you might get lucky and get into the Resident Evil 5 PC launch party, with the fictional Tricell Corporation. (Kotaku)

Zombies and malls go together like chips and salsa, so it’s no surprise that the seventeen-minute short film Zombies and Cigarettes, set in a mall and chock-full of undead, looks pretty cool. Trailer after the break, additional footage at the link. Oh, and Spain? Keep up the kick-ass zombie work. (Quiet Earth)

The upcoming zombie apocalypse film Deadlands 2: Trapped is being released on the dead format of HD-DVD. Except now I guess that means the format is undead, which is strangely appropriate. Look for a review soon, I’m looking at the screener sitting on top of my stack of “to watch” material. (Horror-Movies.ca)

There’s a free, audio-only version of Pontypool available from the BBC. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but this could be very cool… (Horror Squad)

Peek into the guts of the OZ classic Night of the Living Dead with Autopsy of the Dead, a new, direct-to-DVD doc with some of the makers (but not Papa George, apparently…). Trailer embedded after the break. (Zombie Command)

Review: Screaming Zombie energy drink

Posted by Cory Casciato On September - 1 - 2009

zombieNRGA while back, I caught wind of a new, zombie-themed energy drink. In the post I mentioned I was sure it was some generic swill, but that I’d be happy to try it to see if I was wrong. The distributor took me up on the offer, sent me a can and now, my review.

Ingredients: Pretty standard mix of energy drink basics. 1000mg taurine, 75mg caffeine, some guarana (basically more caffeine) and panax ginseng extract (smooths out and boosts the buzz, in my experience). 27 grams of sugar for extra zing! All that adds up to 110 calories, in case you’re counting. Me, I’m a scrawny fuck, so I am not.

szcupAppearance: You can see what the label looks like up top, there. It’s a little cheesy, but not too bad. The actual drink has a pale, golden color, similar to ginger ale and definitely less “colored” than Red Bull. Actually looks quite appetizing — see for youself there to the left.

Flavor: The flavor reminded me of Monster’s base flavor, with the caveat that I haven’t had a Monster energy drink in two years or so — I could be misremembering or they could have changed the flavor in that time. It seemed slightly less sweet than what I remember Monster tasting, which was good because the reason I haven’t had Monster in two years is it is way too sweet for me. Honestly, this was also a bit sweet for my taste. And it had a lingering aftertaste that would not go away. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not one of my favorite energy drink flavors.

Buzz: The most important measure of an energy drink is the kick and I thought this one was just fine in that regard. I substituted it for my morning coffee and was able to get my day off to a reasonable start with its help. And it had more legs than my morning joe — the one can kept me going through lunch time.

Mixability: I didn’t get to test its ability to mix with booze, since, as mentioned, I kicked my day off with it and I try hard not to start on hard liquor first thing in the morning. I think some vodka would cut that sweetness nicely, so I could see this going down just fine as a mixer at a haunted house party. Just supposition, though — I have no evidence. If they want to send me another can, I promise to mix this one with vodka and get back to you, though…

Verdict: Not bad, but not great. Monster fans who want to honor the undead might really dig it. I’d drink it in a pinch, but that sweetness and lingering aftertaste keep it from being top tier for me. Worthy of the name zombie? Well, it’s not going to bring anyone back from the dead, but it certainly opened my eyes in the morning and I have to admit I am yearning to develop a vodka zombie cocktail using it as a base.
