It looks like Dead Rising, one of my favorite zombie games of all time (review here), is set to become a  live-action movie directed and co-written by Keiji Inafune, the same man behind the original game. See the unsubtitled Japanese trailer, embedded after the break. (Kotaku)

Speaking of the franchise, new info on Dead Rising 2 confirms you will be able to combine things via duct tape to make new things. So, kayak paddle + chainsaws + duct tape = paddlesaw! (Kotaku)

Learn more about the faux documentary Portrait of a Zombie, about an Irish family coming to grips with the zombification of their son, in this interview with director Bing Bailey. Also, Bing is an awesome name. (Reel Loop)

The latest George A. Romero zombie opus Survival of the Dead comes to VOD April 30 (Xbox Live and Amazon platforms), then sees a limited theatrical release May 28. (Bloody Disgusting)

The utterly generic title aside, The Dead, a zombie movie set in Africa that finds two men crossing zombie-infested wastelands, looks intriguing. It’s done, the producers are seeking distribution and there’s a new trailer embedded after the break. (Quiet Earth)

Some guy at Coming Attractions has read the script for AMC’s Walking Dead pilot and he says it’s good. There are more details to be found in the piece if you don’t mind some spoilers. (Coming Attractions)

Learn the parkour and fitness skills that will save your ass come the inevitable zombie apocalypse in Zombiefit classes. (Columbia Chronicle)

Ninja zombies, a magic belt and a Karate Kid takeoff are the basic ingredients of the very silly looking Death of the Dead. See a trailer after the break. (A World on Fire)

There’s a demo available for the zombie-killing/driving game Zombie Driver. (A World on Fire)

Tower defense zombie slaughter comes to the BlackBerry platform in Zombie Attack. (PocketBerry)

Don’t know that I will make it to Minneapolis, Minnesota anytime soon, but if I do, I will hang out at  the zombie-themed bar Donny Dirk’s Zombie Den and hope I enjoy it as much as this woman did. (True to Words)

I’m pretty sure the existence of a zombie pickup line generator app for iPhone is a sign that the end times are here. If I am right, quake in fear, for such a thing does exist. (Examiner.com)

There’s a new trailer (embedded after the break, naturally) out for Zombies of Mass Destruction (review here) and an interview with director Kevin Hamedani. Word of warning on that new trailer — it kind of spoils a lot of the movies best gags. (Bloody Disgusting)

A few more details have emerged on the upcoming Italian zombie movie fun of Eaters (mentioned in yesterday’s news post, and there were two trailers in there, too!). It’s about a mad scientist screwing around with a zombie virus because he thinks it’s the next stage of human evolution. Not totally original, but considerably better than “four to ten random strangers hole up in a mall/theater/church/whatever to try and survive the sudden zombie apocalypse.” Dread Central has a more detailed synopsis and some cool images. (Dread Central)

Enjoy pictures of a scantily clad woman kicking zombie ass in these Resident Evil 5: Gold‘s “Mercenaries Reunion” screenshots. (Kotaku)

The Walking Dead series for AMC is officially on like Donkey Kong (that’s what they call it in Hollywood, honest). The pilot has been greenlit and one of the best zombie series ever is headed for TV. (Hollywood Reporter)

What’s worse, nuclear armageddon or zombie apocalypse? Here’s a horrible thought: what if both were to occur, simultaneously? (Film School Rejects)

A virus, lots of dead people and some of them getting up to eat the survivors? Yep, that’s a zombie movie all right. It’s called Eaters and you can view not one but two trailers after the break. Or visit the official website. (via Bloody Disgusting)

Writer/director Jonathan Levine (The Wackness, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) has been signed to adapt Warm Bodies, a zombie romance novel. Gotta say, “zombie romance” is probably the least needed zombie trend ever. (Variety)

A Chuck Norris-obsessed janitor fights off an invasion of alien zombies in The Bloodfest Club, an upcoming movie about to start production in St. Louis. (Dread Central)

File it under dubious news from dubious sources, but some weirdo news site called ChattahBox is reporting that voodoo priests in Haiti are protesting mass burials, fearing a zombie uprising. Take that with as much salt as you like — I suggest a healthy dose, personally. (ChattahBox)

Enjoy this very cool interview with Ian McCulloch, star of Lucio Fulci’s Zombie (aka Zombie Flesh Eaters, Zombie 2, et al) and Zombie Holocaust. (News & Star)

The Marvel zombies keep on coming, and this April Marvel Zombies 5, from writer Fred Van Lente and artist Kano, becomes the latest in the series. (Marvel)

File this under “almost certainly BS,” but ZombieZoneNews says Dawn of the Dead 2 is in the works, citing a Richard Rubinstein quote to Fangoria (unlinked…) and a Zack Snyder quote to SciFi Wire (also unlinked…). Somehow I doubt that every other zombie site on the web would overlook an announcement of this magnitude on two very popular sites, but I guess anything is possible. Can anyone provide a link to either of those supposed articles? I can’t find them myself. In the meantime, barring an official announcement from a reputable outlet, I wouldn’t hold my breath… (ZombieZoneNews)

A group of pop-culture scholars take on the eternal debate: fast zombies vs. slow zombies. (Proofrok)

A movie blogger for some small-market paper declares zombies a winner for the ’00s. I heartily agree, but must point out this is not news to us zombie fans. (The Sentinel)

Zombie site Zombiephiles is going user-generated, meaning people like you get to write the content, he gets to collect the advertising dollars. (Zombiephiles)

How’s your Korean? If you answered “Awesome” (or even “halfway decent”), then Neighbor Zombie, a new episodic zombie fiction, could be interesting to you. Its lack of subtitles serve as an effective barrier to my entry, however. (Quiet Earth)
