Undead Diversion: LiveDead campaign

Posted by Cory Casciato On July - 30 - 2010

This week’s cool thing is the LiveDead campaign. If I’m not mistaken, it’s a viral advertising campaign for the upcoming AMC TV series The Walking Dead. Besides the use of the images, there’s also the use of the term “walkers” to describe the zombies, which the series is also using. If I am mistaken, expect the people behind LiveDead to receive a cease-and-desist from AMC damn soon, because those are clearly images of zombies from the series all over their page.

Yep, seen this guy before...

I caught wind of it from this blog from io9 from Comic Con. Apparently you could get the bracelets you see above there for $1! Unfortunately, the LiveDead site seems to be purely decorative — none of the links work, you can’t go the “store,” etc. Bummer. But maybe AMC (if they are, indeed, behind it) will make it go live as the series gets closer? I hope so. I want a LiveDead bracelet to go with my DeadStrong one. Are you listening AMC? I will give you real American dollars for one of those bracelets!

Undead Diversion is your Friday afternoon cool link/video/etc. to help you transition to the weekend.

The ultra-low budget zombie film Colin is coming to US theaters! Read my thoughts on Colin and you’ll see I think this is a fine idea. (Fangoria)

The awesome Dead of Night (read my Dead of Night reaction piece) is getting remade. Hm, not sure why. The original is still great and it’s not really well enough known to cash in on… (Fangoria)

Writer/director Gary Ugarek is using Kickstarter to try to raise $1 million dollars to make Deadlands 3. Read my review of Deadlands and/or review of Deadlands 2 before you break out your checkbook. (Buy Zombie)

Or heck, don’t listen to me and buy Deadlands 2 on DVD/Blu-ray when it comes out this October. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you. (Fangoria)

Going to be in Louisville, Kentucky tomorrow? Head to Zombiestock and be in The Zombie Movie, a low budget zom-com. (Fangoria)

It’s sort of a zombie movie, so this news sort of belongs here — rock legend Nick Cave is rewriting the script for The Crow remake. That’s kinda cool. (The Wire)

Is Nathan Fillion going to appear in the Patrick Lussier-directed Condition Dead? Maybe! Would that make it a lot more appealing? Yes! (Moviehole)

A classic premise gets a fresh twist in the zombie apocalypse flick Dead Genesis, about a documentarian following a group of zombie hunters to make a propaganda film. There’s a teaser trailer embedded below — the makeup looks a little rough, but the idea holds promise and Dead Genesis is a great name. Here’s hoping it lives up to the promise of the title and premise! (28 Days Later Analysis)

You going to Seattle’s ZomBCon, the all-zombie convention over Halloween weekend? Would you be more inclined to go if I told you George A. Romero is appearing Friday, October 29 at ZomBCon‘s red-carpet event? (Thanks to Will Thompson for the tip!)

Fashion Zombie: Zombie dreams T

Posted by Cory Casciato On July - 26 - 2010

The moment I saw this shirt, I knew it was this week’s Fashion Zombie pick. It’s titled “Every Night I Have the Same Dream” and I love zombie dreams. Plus, it’s a comic, on a shirt! How can you go wrong?

It’s yet another Threadless design, but I assure you, I am not unduly favoring them. They just have a fuckload of awesome shirts. This one is $20, a bit over my preferred price range but I may have to make an exception for reasons of undue awesomeness. There’s more to the story, too — you can see the back of the design below, plus an image of the shirt on a model.

I’m attempting to assemble an all zombie-themed wardrobe. Fashion Zombie is my weekly post detailing the coolest zombie-themed clothes and accessories I can find. Check back every Monday for another look at the hottest zombie apparel.

Frank Darabont talks Walking Dead (TV) and reveals his influences, a bit about how he’s shaping and altering the narrative and more. Also, word is Comic Con audience loved the Walking Dead trailer they saw. Lucky bastards. (HitFix)

There’s also a handful of minor Walking Dead (TV) casting announcements. (FEARnet)

And more Walking Dead (TV) news! Season two is a go (already!) with hopes of seeing George Romero (!!!) direct an episode, the composer is Bear McCreary (of Battlestar Galactica) and Walking Dead (comic) artist Charlie Adlard cameos as a zombie. Oh, and a detailed description of the trailer footage. (Dread Central)

And someone shot footage of the trailer, naturally. It’s the worst possible angle, you can barely see WTF is going on and it’s more annoying than awesome, but hey: it exists. At least until the powers-that-be pull it down. You can find it embedded below until then. (Zombie Command)

Also, if you enjoy pictures of people you can sort of recognize sitting behind a table, there are some Walking Dead (TV) cast and crew pictures from the Comic Con panel. (FEARnet)

Or, better yet, a couple of new Walking Dead (TV) production stills! (Dread Central)

And if you liked the Walking Dead poster I mentioned yesterday, here’s some info on how to buy it. (Buy Zombie)

There’s an odd new commercial for Dead Rising: Case Zero embedded below for you. No zombies … just Vegas. Like I said, odd. (Buy Zombie)

Undead Diversion: Matt and Wes vs the Zombie Apocalypse

Posted by Cory Casciato On July - 23 - 2010

Happy Friday, all. Today’s undead diversion is the first episode of a promising new webseries called Matt and Wes vs. the Zombie Apocalypse. It’s got hipsters, zombies, a deep and nuanced discussion of what makes a zombie, lots of blood and some great jokes. I’m quite taken with it and can’t wait for the continuation. It also works beautifully as a stand alone zombie skit, so don’t hesitate to hit play even if you aren’t up for the “commitment” of watching a new webseries, or are worried you’ll get into it only to have it die a premature death (with no subsequent undead revival, of course).

Undead Diversion is your Friday afternoon cool link/video/etc. to help you transition to the weekend.

Check out an awesome new poster for The Walking Dead by Drew Sturzan. (Ain’t It Cool News)

Or read an interview (with spoilers: you’ve been warned) with Walking Dead leading man Andrew Lincoln. (io9)

Good news! The World War Z movie is still on and Brad Pitt is attached to star. Also, Zombie Survival Guide and ZSG: Recorded Attacks have also been optioned. It’s a franchise! Supposedly the first one (WWZ) is still being directed by Marc Forster and is coming fall 2012. We’ll see. (MTV Movies Blog)

Before settling on Las Vegas as a setting for Dead Rising‘s sequel, the original plan was to set Dead Rising 2 in Disneyland. Also, you can download Dead Rising: Case Zero on Xbox Live (only) August 31 for $5. (Kotaku)

The official website of Resident Evil: Afterlife is live. I thought it had already launched, but I don’t have the patience to go through my news posts to find it at the moment. Anyway, not that much going on there at the moment beyond trailers and pics you’ve already seen, but maybe soon given that San Diego Comic Con is in swing. (Bloody Disgusting)

You might get more RE: Afterlife goodness out of this interview with two of the producers. (Fangoria)

Go behind the scenes of African zombie apocalypse film The Dead via the magic of embedded video (it’s embedded below). (Bloody Disgusting)

The folks behind the short Ay Up Me Duck of the Dead are working on a full length film called Zombie Hood. (Buy Zombie)

Apparently the latest series of the point-and-click adventure game The Devil’s Playhouse takes part around a zombie apocalypse, if the summary of episode four is to be believed. (TotalPlaystation)
