It’s time for poll results. Actually, it’s well past time, because the two open polls have been running for quite a while now — one since last November! Sorry about that — I get busy. Freelance writing isn’t really a terribly lucrative profession — in order to keep the bills paid, I have to work a lot. Anyway, enough about my poor, suffering existence. Let’s talk about zombies! More to the point, let’s talk about what you fine people like best about the zombies and are looking forward to in the zombie realm.

2009 was a great year for zombie fans, with releases like Pontypool, Dead Snow and Zombieland at the movies, Left 4 Dead 2 in games and lots of other great stuff. 2010 has the potential to be even better. To get you up to speed on the year to come, I’ve compiled a list of ten of the most exciting zombie projects I expect to see in the coming year. Note that I only included things that I think have a solid chance of being released in 2010, so things like Zombieland 2 or The 4th Reich haven’t been included, as cool as they might be. Without further ado, I present my top ten picks for cool zombie shit coming in 2010. Make sure ot vote in the poll or leave me a comment with your thoughts!
Since Fort Zombie, one of the games in our “what upcoming zombie game are you looking forward to?” poll is out, it’s time for a new poll. The clear winner of the last poll is Left 4 Dead 2, with sixty of 135 votes, or a solid 44 percent of the total votes — not that it’s any surprise, since L4D2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. What was surprising was a late, strong showing from Fort Zombie, due in part, no doubt, to the interest generated by our exclusive Q&A with the Fort Zombie dev team and people finding the site (and thus the poll) while searching for info on the game. In any case, FZ grabbed 25 votes, good for 19 percent of the total, pushing it ahead of Dead Rising 2, which ended up at 20 votes (15 percent). Dead Island grabbed 10 percent (13 votes) and the as-yet untitled zombie survival RPG from DoubleBear nabbed the last significant block with its seven votes for 5 percent. The rest? Well, I guess no one (or almost no one) cares about Zombie Tycoon or Undead Knights — “something else” beat them both. And no one left comments even saying what that “else” might be…
As a followup, tell us what your favorite medium for zombies is. Do you like zombie movies? Zombie videogames? Books? Comics? Scratch-and-sniff stickers? You can find the poll after the break. I can’t wait to see where you most love to find zombies. The poll will remain open for at least two weeks, so send your friends to stuff the ballot box for your favorite. And if you vote “Something else,” please leave a comment saying what that something might be. It’s more fun for everyone if you do.
Since one of the movies in our “what upcoming movie are you looking forward to?” poll — Zombieland — opens in about eight hours (less some places!) it’s time for a new poll. If you haven’t been keeping track, the clear winner is Zombieland, with sixty of 106 votes — well over half. The next closest was Resident Evil: Afterlife with sixteen votes, then George Romero’s next, Survival of the Dead with thirteen. REC 2 made a respectable showing early on, but faltered later, ending up with a decent but unremarkable ten votes. Zombies of Mass Destruction … well, you’re an indie, so be glad you nabbed a couple votes. And I am dying to know what “Something else” was but no one left comments.
As a followup, tell us what zombie videogame you are looking forward to the most. You can find the poll after the break and more information about each of these games all over the Internets — including this site for a few of them. Can’t wait to see what’s got you excited. The poll will remain open for at least two weeks, so send your friends to stuff the ballot box for your favorite. And if you vote “Something else,” please leave a comment saying what that something might be. It’s more fun for everyone if you do.
Considering June is almost upon us, I thought it was time I got serious about firming up this list. Here’s what I’ve settled on watching for sure:
Lucio Fulci’s Zombie
Hell of the Living Dead
Burial Ground: Nights of Terror
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Return of the Living Dead
Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things
I Walked with a Zombie
Messiah of Evil
Grapes of Death
Night of the Living Dead (1990)
That’s nineteen, which is almost two-thirds of the month. There will definitely be three more Japanese zombie movies, which I’m inviting you all to vote for (poll at the bottom of the post and on the right sidebar). Leave me a comment or e-mail with suggestions on these. Here is the list of “maybes” I am still considering:
- They Came Back
- Dead and Breakfast
- Zombie Strippers
- The Stink of Flesh
- Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead
- Redneck Zombies
- Zombie Honeymoon
- Enter Zombie King
- Resident Evil
- Sugar Hill
- The Walking Dead
- The Fog
Also, if you have a blog, I invite you to join the Zombie Movie Marathon Month Film Club. It works like this: watch one or more of these movies this month (bonus points for watching them the same day as I do!). Write something about the movie on your blog, and link to my writing on the site from your post. E-mail me with the link. I link back to you! Fun! Easy! An excuse to watch a ton of zombie movies and maybe get a minor traffic boost!
Finally, I need a hand choosing which Japanese zombie movies to pick for my five days of Japanese zombies. No need to comment, just push a button. Never heard of any of these? That’s okay, you can pick them by title if you like. Or by art — the picture at the top of this post is for Onechanbara…
