To honor George A. Romero’s birthday today (happy birthday!), the folks at FEARNet had a bunch of horror luminaries, including Guillermo del Toro, Edgar Wright and Max Brooks, give short tributes to the master. Today is the one-year anniversary of the site! So, to celebrate, I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite zombie things — the stuff that I use, look at or think about every single day. I’m not going to cover my favorite movies, books or games here — those are amply covered in other posts and each of those categories is probably deserving of its own dedicated list. These are the other things — the little zombie accoutrements, ephemera and oddities that make every day in the Casciato household a zombie day. And consequently, many of the things that make my fiancée a little crazy (she does not love zombies).

I know when you’re reading this blog, you’re thinking, “This is all fascinating, riveting stuff, but what does this guy look like? More importantly, what would he look like as a zombie?” Well now, thanks to my loving and ever-creative better half and the artistry of Rob Sacchetto of Zombie Daily, you know. I received a lovely, hand-drawn version of the image you see here for my birthday Saturday and knew I just had to share it with you fine people. Today is George A. Romero’s birthday, and what more fitting day to launch what is destined to be the greatest zombie blog ever conceived and executed by man? No need to answer, that is a rhetorical question. Stay tuned for everything zombie related you could ever ask for.

In the meantime, happy birthday to you, Mr. Romero. Your films have been changing the world for the last forty years and I hope you get forty more, even though you’d look like one of your more decrepit zombies by that point. Thanks for everything!
