It’s April 1, so fake news stories abound. I’m going to do my best to sort the real from the BS, and tell you about both, but I apologize in advance if I get any wrong.

Real News

The Return of the Living Dead film series is getting a deluxe, in-depth history in book form in the upcoming The Complete History of the Living Dead. It’s coming out October 1 and you can preorder it now , if you like the freedom to pay money for things you won’t see for a really long time. (Shock Till You Drop)

San Francisco gets WonderCon this weekend. Zombie enthusiasts, note the presence of Milla Jovovich and Max Brooks! You can get tickets and info here. (io9)

Game writer William Harms (inFamous, Supreme Commander) has branched out into novel writing with a zombie Western called Dead or Alive. In it, two stage coach robbers face the sudden, unexpected rising of the dead in a dusty frontier town. (Blend Games)

An ambitious and skillful crafter has made Plants vs. Zombies “plushies.” (MTV Multiplayer)

The writers of Zombieland 2 are chock full of ideas: adding new characters, following Abigail Breslin’s character as she grows up and maybe giving Tallahassee a girlfriend are just a few of the possible items on the menu for the sequel. Oh, and it’s all going to be 3D. (MTV Movies Blog)

Shooting of the pilot episode of the TV adaptation of the Walking Dead starts May 15 in Atlanta, Georgia. Does this mean it’s been cast already? I want details, damn it! (Bloody Disgusting)

There’s a big ReAnimator reunion convention happening May 21-23 in Los Angeles. So far, Stuart Gordon, Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton, Robert Sampson and Dennis Paoli are set to appear. (Dread Central)

Speaking of ReAnimator, there’s a new movie coming soon called Exquisite Corpse about a doctor who comes up with a serum to revive the dead. Naturally, he uses it on his just-killed girlfriend. Just as naturally, it has some issues, like the fact that it only lasts a day and each time it’s used a little of the subject’s humanity is lost. Trailer after the break. (Dread Central)

Buy the corpse-stealing comedy I Sell the Dead (review here) on DVD, get a free forty-page comic as a bonus. (Bloody Disgusting)

Players of the iPhone’s FPS Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies will get a new map pack tomorrow called “Verruckt.” It’s set in an insane asylum and costs $5. (Kotaku)

A blogger ponders the all-important question: can the freezing cold and snow stop (or at least slow) the zombie apocalypse? (A World on Fire)

It looks as if PC gamers looking to shoot zombies in space with Dead Space 2 will be out of luck. No PC version for you! (Blues News)

Some wacky movie pirates in the Dominican Republic got creative with the faux movie poster for the Left 4 Dead campaign “Dead Air.” Wonder if the movie inside was the Corbin Bernsen-directed zombie flick of the same name? (Kotaku)

It’s official: Zombieland will get a sequel and it will be in 3D. Director Ruben Fleischer is signed on to return, the writing team behind the original (Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) is already at work and talks are in progress for stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg to return. (Variety)

The voice cast for the upcoming animated prequel Night of the Living Dead: Origins is coming together. The latest report on the matter names six actors –  Jesse Corti, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley, Joe Pilato, Alona Tal and Cornell Womack — but not the previously mentioned Mos Def. Hopefully that’s just an oversight. (The Hollywood Reporter)

The Onion News Network reported on the GOP’s latest effort to find a new face — Zombie Reagan. (Note: If you are unfamiliar with The Onion, it is satire.) The video is embedded for you after the break. (The Onion)

There’s not a ton of new info in it, but if you’re breathlessly following every development in the upcoming Undead Labs MMOZ game, here’s another generality filled interview with lead Jeff Strain. (The Feed)

If you’ve been following the community-developed game The Zombie Game Experiment, then you’ll be glad to hear AI middleware developers Xaitment have donated their AI tools. (Zombie Command)

If you’ve always wanted a cutesy, 6″ tall zombie figurine/toy and have $40 to spend, your day has finally come. Pocket Zombies are here. (Dread Central)

If you love comics, pro wrestling and zombies, man are you going to love this. (Zombie Command)

The apocalypse-loving folk of Quiet Earth are digging the short film Plague and have made it available to watch online. You can watch it after the break here, where I have embedded it, if you hate clicking on other sites. (Quiet Earth)

Did you love REC? Do you get excited by news about movie posters and debunked rumors? Then these Italian REC 2 one-sheets and info about the now-debunked REC 3 website should thrill you to no end. (Dread Central)

List: Most Wanted Zombie Directors

Mr. Director? The zombies are ready for their closeup

Romero. Fulci. Jackson. O’Bannon. Wright. These are all hallowed names among zombie directors, and fine directors in their own right. But despite loving the zombie above and beyond all other film genres, I do watch other kinds of movies. And while I watch them, sometimes I can’t help but notice, “Damn, this director is great.” And then, loving the zombie the way I do, I can’t help but think, “What if these guys made a zombie movie? “ I’m talking about people who have never made a zombie movie – not people who should make another (that’s another list…) Here’s my list of the top ten directors I’d like to see shoot the zombie – with a camera that is. When the apocalypse comes, we’ll all be shooting the bastards in the traditional, bullet-y way. (Photo above by flickr user lebovox; original photo here.)

The Fetid Waters are waiting

Posted by Cory Casciato On February - 11 - 2009

Seems that the this morning’s video game discovery has sparked a trend (well, I guess you need three for a trend). I found a link to House of the Dead‘s movie poster generator this morning. If you aren’t familiar with House of the Dead, it is a crappy light-gun zombie shooter. It was also spun off into a supposedly terrible Uwe Boll movie, which I have never seen. I’ve never been a fan of light-gun games in general or this franchise in particular so there’s not much else I can say about the actual game.

They’re making a Wii version of it, and they made this fun little movie poster generator to promote the thing. I seriously doubt I will ever play the game, but the poster maker is a great way to not work for an hour or so. I came across this on Final Girl’s blog (one of the best horror bloggers out there, if you aren’t already reading her) and she’s running some sort of contest, so if you get really inspired, send her your masterpiece. Above, you see my creation. Although I despise the movie Zombie Lake, I’ve always thought zombies from a lake held promise, so that’s the direction I took.
