Fashion Zombie: End of the Road

Posted by Cory Casciato On June - 18 - 2012

The End of the Road

This week’s fashion zombie entry is something of a callback to one of my favorite zombie t-shirts of all time. It’s by the same artist (Aled Lewis), same company (Threadless) and it essentially illustrates the same scenario: our hero facing off the amassed undead from a tactically sound yet strategically doomed vantage point. What’s not to love? It could be called derivative of its forerunner, but I say that’s bullshit. There’s nothing wrong with an artist revisiting a theme over and over again if the theme is cool enough, and this one is plenty cool. This one will set you back $20 from Threadless, which is a mite steep, but I will say that I still have every Threadless shirt I have ever purchased and they are still in great shape, so you do kind of get what you pay for. If you are the patient type, you could also wait for one of their intermittent sales, which often see their fine torso coverings selling for as little as $10.

Fashion Zombie: YOLT

Posted by Cory Casciato On June - 11 - 2012

You Only Live Twice, YOLO, YOLT

Apparently the neologism YOLO is all the rage among the kids. An acronym of “You only live once,” YOLO is typically called upon to justify some stupid, rash, and occasionally lethal decision—like, say, teasing a zombie. If that were to happen, the result would be what you see above: You only live twice, even if the second time around it’s as some ghoulish, flesh-hungry, animated corpse. In other words, it’s just what everyone needs: a zombie-themed lampooning of the idiotic youth trend of the moment. Huzzah! This shirt will set you back $20 at Snorg Tees, which is a little steep in my opinion, but hey, YOLO, right?

Fashion Zombie: The Walken Dead

Posted by Cory Casciato On May - 21 - 2012

The Walken Dead, Fashion Zombie

This week’s Fashion Zombie turns the spotlight on the Walken Dead. Is that a joke so obvious even your not-clever friend thought it up by the third episode of season 2 of The Walking Dead? It is. Is it a one-note, essentially dumb joke? It is. Does that mean it is any less sweet of a t-shirt? It does not. So enjoy your Walken Dead t-shirt and joke, for the reasonable price of $14.99 from TShirtBordello.com, or at least buy it for that friend of yours that just thinks it’s the funniest fucking thing he’s ever heard so maybe he will finally shut up about it. Bonus: In case you haven’t seen it, the video form of this one-note joke is embedded below.

Questions of the Dead: Why do zombies wear such shitty clothes?

Posted by Cory Casciato On May - 18 - 2012

You’ve got zombie questions? We’ve got zombie answers! Ask us anything about the living dead and we’ll do our best to give you the best answer no money can buy. In our inaugural edition, we answer a question from Twitter user @MaryKoCo: “Why do zombies have such shitty clothes?! You JUST died; how’d you mess up your shirt that bad?”

Excellent question, @MaryKoCo! The short answer is, they don’t, necessarily. Have a look at this dapper motherfucker:

Not too shabby, right? A little dusty, perhaps, but looking good in that suit. That’s the first zombie from Night of the Living Dead, the first of the modern zombie films. So, you see, plenty of zombie don’t look bad at all. But you have to consider that fashion means nothing to zombies. They don’t change their clothes; they make no effort to stop viscera and gore from messing up their pants. In other words, the undead lifestyle is really hard on your clothes. You can go from fashion plate to total mess in no time flat.

Also, a lot of zombie film directors are lazy, worthless, uncreative fucks, and they don’t pay any attention at all to things like “how long has this dude been dead, and what state of decay should his clothes be in?” and so they ruin it for everyone else. Nice work, you dickbags.

Got a question about zombies? We want to answer it! Tweet it at us on Twitter, ask us via Facebook, or even just leave your question in a comment and we’ll answer it as soon as we can.

Fashion Zombie: Typography of the Dead

Posted by Cory Casciato On May - 14 - 2012

Fashion Zombie, TheYeTee, Zombies

Fashion Zombie is back! And it brought a sweet shirt, naturally. This is yet another one of those “only available for a limited time” places offering cool t-shirts, and their first Fashion Zombie entry features a nice mix of the living dead and typography. As you can see, they’ve spelled out “zombie” using, well, zombies. This is one of the less-gruesome, more-cutesy zombie shirts, suitable for draping yourself in at children’s parties, company picnics, or while trying to pick up the cute girl/guy in horn-rimmed glasses at the coffee shop. But act fast! It’s only available for about 10 more hours, for the entirely reasonable cost of $11.

Greetings undead lovers! I’m back from a weekend camping trip on an island that was not full of zombies and I’m ready to bring you some great news.

In the mood to kill yet even more time at work on the company internet? If so, you should check out The Last Stand – Union City, a browser based side scrolling action adventure zombie survival game that’s not too shabby. (g-hacks)

Uwe Boll, the man who brought us every good horrible movie from the last decade, is back on the case and producing Zombie Massacre with Marco Ristori and Luca Boni who brought us Eaters not too long ago. It’s based on a 1998 game of the same name that no one played but seems like a good premise. (Worst Previews)

Neal, one of the guys over at Fancy Dress Outfitters who sent us that cool zombie garden shed survival infographic earlier in the year, sent us the latest thing they’ve whipped up, a nice Halloween zombie guide supporting free range zombie death that’s just as informative.

Now because I know you all had a long weekend (well most of you anyway) I’ve put together some good videos to help you unwind after a boring day back at the office. They’re all after the break.

We’ve got EVEN MORE pictures from the upcoming Walking Dead toy line, and Rick Grimes looks absolutely fantastic. (Buy Zombie)

Stephen Schlozman, MD and author of The Zombie Autopsies, gives an interesting look into just exactly why we fear the undead. (Kotaku)

David Von Ancken, who directed episodes of Heroes, Memphis Beat, The Vampire Diaries, The Shield, and OZ is set to direct the pilot episode of the new CW zombie teen drama Awakening. Getting a guy who directed a lot of bad canceled shows and one good one (I won’t say which one, and yes, I know that The Vampire Diaries is still on, and that’s a shame) might not be the star power play you’re hoping for, CW. (Bloody Disgusting)

Now there will be no question of what your loved ones should do after you’ve become a member of the undead. The new ZombAlert identifiers give them the option of attempting to cure you, or finishing you quickly. I endorse this product and plan to buy one. (Buy Zombie)

Lars and the Real Girl director Craig Gillespe is now in talks to direct Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I think I’m going to start a betting pool to see how long this one lasts. (Cinema Blend)

Here’s some highlights from the creative writing seminar that World War Z author Max Brooks recently gave at the University of North Carolina. (The Blue Banner)

The Mansion in New Jersey is putting on a The Zombies R.I.P., a zombie fashion show to raise money for the upcoming film Blood Lodge. The event takes place March 6. In case you didn’t know this, zombie models are pretty hot. (Buy Zombie)

Zombo, an interactive talking zombie for your iPhone, is free for the next three days, so don’t hesitate to pick this one up. I would, but I’ve busted the oh-so-precious glass screen on my iPhone so I’ll probably miss this deal. There’s a little trailer for the game after the break. (Buy Zombie)

Just in time for Valentine’s Day we bring you Zombie Love Song, a cool little animated music video from Ray Johnson and the Atomic Beats. (io9)

Here’s some new post production images from 2012: Apocalypse of the Dead, which should be hitting DVD any day now. (Dread Central)

Fashion Zombie: Zombie Stompers

Posted by Cory Casciato On December - 6 - 2010

Today”s Fashion Zombie post is a very special guest entry from Theresa Mercado, a woman I met through our shared love of all things undead and gruesome. She’s a fan of the groovy zombie shoes (and some other stuff from the same manufacturer) you see above, so I asked her to whip up a Fashion Zombie post for me on them, since my knowledge of women’s shoes is fairly limited. Enjoy!
