Fashion Zombie: Narwhal vs. zombie

Posted by Cory Casciato On April - 26 - 2010

Zombies. They love to fight stuff. And Etsy designer Tina Seamonster loves to make shirts documenting that. You may recall she was the one behind the awesome “Obama punching a zombie” shirt that was the first-ever Fashion Zombie entry. Now she’s combined two of the Internet’s favorite things — narwhals and zombies — into one awesome shirt-based deathmatch, illustrated by Chuck Knigge. As the woman herself says, “I am pretty sure that the elusive narwhal can totally take a zombie. Given the right conditions, like in the water, of course.” Can’t argue with that.

You can get one of these shirts, in green (pictured) or pink, for $20 from her shop. She makes them in small batches, so they may sell out and/or not be available in your size. Just keep checking back, she makes more from time to time. To see the design on a model, click through the “Read the rest of this entry” link below.

Fashion Zombie: Zombie vs vampire

Posted by Cory Casciato On April - 19 - 2010

A tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme: No, not beauty and the beast, but zombie vs. vampire. And if there’s any doubt as to who wins this particular match up, you are looking at the wrong website, mister (or ma’am — either gender could be equally wrong on this topic). Now you can get the fateful zombie vs. vampire death match in stylish, colorful T-shirt form from Zombie Liquorice.

Zombie Liquorice has quite a few wonderfully gruesome designs, but this one is my favorite. Like most of their shirts, it runs $20 (you can order it here) and comes on an American Apparel tee. I don’t actually own this (as much as I love it, I’m poor and $20 is a lot for a shirt) so I can’t vouch for the quality of printing. I will say that all the AA shirts I own from any company are great, so the fact that they use those is a point in their favor. Below, you’ll find a picture of the shirt itself, if you want a better overall view of the design and an idea of how it works on the shirt.

Fashion Zombie: Zombie at Tiffany’s

Posted by Cory Casciato On April - 12 - 2010

Today’s Fashion Zombie is a brand-new T-shirt from Threadless. It’s a great repurposing of the iconic Audrey Hepburn image from Breakfast at Tiffany’s into something suitably gruesome. You can pick it up for $18, or do what I’m planning and wait until they have a sale and get it for half that.

The guy’s T is good, but it looks great on a woman — if only my fiancee would wear it. Maybe I’ll buy one for my daughter instead. You can see it on a female model below.

Fashion Zombie: Plants vs Zombies sneakers

This week’s fashion Zombie is a something a little different. It’s a hand-drawn pair of Plants vs Zombies-themed kids shoes. Now, obviously, I couldn’t wear these (they’re kids’ size 9) and probably wouldn’t even if they were available in my size. But as a fan of the game (review here) that doesn’t mean I don’t think they are damn cool. And if I had a little one, I’d buy a pair of these sweet sneaks for them! Not that it’s an option: these are a custom job via Flickr user bcpcornejo‘s girlfriend, who made them for her niece. No other info, apart from the fact that it took her 5.5 hours to do the work. Not bad! There’s another view below, or you can visit the Flickr set for a half dozen photos of them.

Fashion Zombie: Zombie Johnny Cash

Posted by Cory Casciato On March - 29 - 2010

This week’s Fashion Zombie entry comes from my personal collection (hence the questionable quality of the photography, the wrinkles and the minor wear visible). It’s a band shirt for the Littleton, Colorado-based Zombie Hate Brigade, a super-heavy grindcore/death metal band. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of the genre, but they are very cool dudes and love zombies as much as I do. Plus, they make some kick-ass shirts.

This one is one of my favorites, and the band was kind enough to donate it to my personal collection a while back. As you can see, the front simply states “Zombie” across the chest, which is actually kind of cool. The back, though is much cooler – a zombified Johnny Cash in an iconic pose. It appears the shirt is no longer available from the band’s sales site, but maybe if you contact them via MySpace (click the band name above for a link) they can hook you up. Oh, and they do have a limited number of hoodies with a similar Johnny Cash image available. Enough talk — the second image awaits below…

Fashion Zombie: Zombie Trek

Posted by Cory Casciato On March - 22 - 2010

It’s not every day you can combine two of your great geek loves into one great package. This shirt does the trick for me. Long before I ever got into zombies, I was a big, huge Star Trek fan (yes I know I just lost a cool points in some of your eyes. I can deal with that). These days, I don’t follow it much (though I did see the new movie) but it will always be a part of me. So combining zombies with Trek and managing to shoehorn not one, but two Trek references/jokes into the shirt? I’m sold.

It will run you $16 from Think Geek, which isn’t bad. A little more than I prefer to pay for a T-shirt, but not ridiculous. Next time I’ve got a spare $20, I’ll probably pick it up. Live long and prosper, then continue as an revivified corpse.

Some Survival of the Dead clips have hit the net, supposedly of “big” moments from the film. I haven’t watched them, since I hate seeing clips of movies I intend to watch in full, but you can find one embedded for you below, and three more at Bloody Disgusting (or on YouTube). (Bloody Disgusting)

Even better than the clips, there’s a Survival of the Dead zombie identification field manual to help you identify those pesky zombies. Helpful hint: they’re the ones trying to bite your face. (Dread Central)

It’s still weird to me that books get trailers now, but the new trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls, the prequel to the Jane Austen mashup, is pretty kick ass. It’s embedded below. (Zombie Command)

Need some reading material? Here’s a look at four newish works in the zombie field. (Suvudu)

This past weekend in my hometown of Denver, there was a zombie fashion show. Prior commitments prevented me from attending, but here’s a slide show of the fashionable zombies. (Westword)

There’s a third entry in the infamous Deadlands film series coming from creator Gary Ugarek. This one focuses on three groups in the zombie ravaged world, including a man with a death wish who’s the leader of an elite commando unit. While I was no fan of either of its predecessors (first review here, and second review here), you can’t say Ugarek lacks ambition. Perhaps the third time will be the charm. (Fangoria)

An op-ed asks the vital question: Will global warming exacerbate the zombie apocalypse? (The Day)

On a similar(?) note, a blogger shares her theory that those that bust a sag — that is, those who wear their pants below their ass — will be the first to be eaten when the zombies come. (Tara Lynn Childs)

GDC attendees are getting zombie vaccinations courtesy of Zombrex, as a promotion for Dead Rising 2 apparently. (Kotaku)

Fashion Zombie: The Unofficial IZA shirt

Posted by Cory Casciato On March - 15 - 2010

As of yet, I haven’t had the resources to make an official T-shirt for the website. Until such time as I do, might I suggest this lovely garment as the unofficial T-shirt of the site? It’s actually the official shirt of the band the Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse, whom I share the name with. They are a cool band from Boston and have a song called “The Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse” which I consider sort of an unofficial theme song as well. They also have a song called “Aim for the Head,” so you know they are good people. You can buy this shirt from Bombskull Graphic Tees and from what I understand, the band gets all the moneys made from sales, so there’s that.

I like this one a lot because it’s very minimalist and elegant, allowing you to broadcast your love for the walking dead without necessarily sporting some graphic horribleness on your shirt. Not that I am against graphic horribleness, but sometimes it’s nice to go sort-of incognito, you know? And it’s available in a couple different shirt styles and four or five colors, too. You can see my preferred design below, and if, you know, someone wanted to buy me one, I’d be real appreciative…

Fashion Zombie: Zombie protest apparel

Posted by Cory Casciato On March - 8 - 2010

Today in Denver the weather turned gray and cold after a week’s stretch of nice days lured me into a false sense of warm-weather security. The nasty outside my window got me thinking about my dire need for a fashionable zombie hoodie and lo and behold, today’s Fashion Zombie entry. It’s from the ever-amusing minds at Think Geek, who offer this lovely zombie-rights protest hoodie. It’ll set you back about $40, but you’ll look good and zombie-aware and stay warm. It’s also available on a T-shirt (see the image below, which also shows the design a little better).
