Go behind the scenes of The Walking Dead for a look at the zombies in the video blog “Zombie School,” embedded below for your viewing pleasure. (AMCTV)

Genre vet Michael Rooker (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, too many other roles to list, probably best known for his role as Svenning in Mallrats) has joined the cast of The Walking Dead as Merle, presumably a new (or renamed?) character. (Dread Central)

And there’s a new zombie image from The Walking Dead, as well. (Bloody Disgusting)

The femme-zombie film Doghouse is now available from IFC’s VOD service. There’s a new trailer for it embedded below. (Horror Squad)

My favorite horror-rocker/T-shirt designer/zombie comic Eric Weiss (aka Zombie!) is now delving into video games. The Zombie! game will feature “9 songs from the debut CD, artwork by Dave Cook and Corefolio, 3 horrific FPS levels, plenty of violence, blood, guts, and fun!” he promises. There’s a trailer after the break, and hopefully more info to come.

In the upcoming film Wake Wood, a couple bring their daughter back from the dead via a pagan ritual, but trouble arises when they don’t want to let her die again when their allotted time is up. (28 Days Later Analysis)

There’s a new promo zombie image for Night of the Living Dead: Origins, the animated prequel/reboot of NotLD. (Bloody Disgusting)

Finally, thanks to Andre Hernandez for sending a news tip!

The  George Romero App of the Dead is available for iPhone. (Dread Central)

A New Zealand-based fashion label has an entire collection inspired by zombies. I sense a high-fashion entry to Fashion Zombie coming up! (Horror Squad)

Why are zombie novels so popular? Is it because the novel itself is a dead artform still shambling around with some semblance of life? (N+1)

The AMC adaptation of The Walking Dead got white-hot today as production officially started. We got the first look at the Walkers (i.e. zombies) and they look awesome. There’s also a behind-the-scenes video, which you can find embedded below. That’s all from the official Walking Dead blog at amctv.com, which seems is a good place to watch for news about the series.

It’s not the only place, though, since elsewhere we discover that Addy Miller has joined the cast, presumably as Sophia, the young daughter of Carol. (The Walking Dead Poscast)

Also added to the cast is Linds Edwards, playing a character named Leon Bennet. Uh, who? I don’t recall that one and neither does the Walking Dead wiki. Looks like the TV show will have some new characters. (IMDB)

You didn’t think you were done with George Romero interviews, did you? Because they aren’t done with you. Romero speaks about his favorite among his films, his favorite part of the filmmaking process and more. It’s a solid interview.  (Icon vs. Icon)

What does Paul W.S. Anderson have to say about the making of Resident Evil: Afterlife? You don’t have to wonder, you can read all about it. (FEARnet)

Can’t wait to see REC 2 in its entirety? Well, there’s a clip from it embedded below for you! Me, I hate spoilers and watching films out of order, so I am going to wait. (Bloody Disgusting)

Tonight at 7 p.m. PST, the cast and crew of the awesome zombie audio drama podcast We’re Alive (review herefeature here)  is doing a live video teleconference.

Learn all about Robin Becker and her book Brains: A Zombie Memoir, which tells a story from the zombie’s point of view. (The Zombie Nation)

Someone decided to ask Charlotte, North Carolina’s local zombie experts why zombies are popular. The results are mildly amusing at times. (C-Ville)

The George Romero Media Deathmarch continues. Here’s a list of what’s new today:

  • Cinematical does a good interview, covering Westerns, Romero’s other films and lots of stuff that isn’t covered elsewhere.
  • Brightest Young Things does a decent interview with a few new questions.
  • Vanity Fair does a crappy interview. I think the interviewer was drunk and pissed he had to interview Romero.
  • Finally, you will find a video interview for Sci Fi Wire embedded below. It’s okay, but no new ground.

Want to be a zombie in AMC’s adaptation of The Walking Dead? Take a vacation to Atlanta in mid-June or early July and your dream could come true. (On Location Vacations)

There’s a new redband trailer for the US theatrical release of REC 2. It reveals some new stuff (possibly a bit too much, as most US trailers tend to) and it makes me even more excited for the movie. See it embedded below. (Bloody Disgusting)

An interview with actor Shawn Roberts, who plays villain Albert Wesker in the upcoming Resident Evil: Afterlife, covers the film’s zombies, shooting in 3D and lots more. (FEARnet)

Zombies, vampires, seances, magical doohickeys and Tom Savini are just some of the goodies in the trailer for The Dead Matter embedded below. There’s more info on its release, too. (Dread Central)

Another day, another George Romero interview. This one may be my favorite, as he reveals what he thinks of 3D, the afterlife and what his zombie apocalypse kit consists of, among many other gems. (Philadelphia Magazine)

If you’re looking to hang that Charlie Adlard (Walking Dead artist) Survival of the Dead poster in your home, your dreams have come true and it will only cost you $30. Also, your dreams will glow in the dark, so there’s that. (Ain’t It Cool News)

Robert Kirkman reveals some good stuff about the AMC adaptation of his Walking Dead series, stuff like there’s no gore limit imposed by the network, Jeffrey DeMunn is playing Dale and the show won’t completely follow the plot of the books. (Ain’t It Cool News)

The next videogame from Gearbox Software, developers of the Borderlands videogame (which had a zombie-based expansion), may be a zombie game. They just registered a trademark for videogames and movies called Z-Day, and that sure as heck sounds like a zombie game to me! (1Up)

If you want the special, three-disc (two CDs of music, one DVD of film) version of the upcoming movie The Dead Matter, you will have to venture into a Hot Topic, where it will be exclusively sold. The horror, the horror… Presumably, the regular one-disc edition will be available at other, non-emo retailers. Anyway, the film is about a girl who comes into possession of a relic that allows her to control the dead, which makes her the target of a vampire lord. Sounds suitably ridiculous and it has Tom Savini. (Fangoria)

Probably no surprise to anyone, REC 2 pulled an R rating for American theaters. (Bloody Disgusting)

A report from PollyGrind, a Las Vegas-based film festival, calls Zombie Apocalypse Now: A Zombie Hunter “one of the most trying movie-watching experiences … ever endured.” Sounds promising! You can read a bit more about it here. (Las Vegas Sun)

How about some delicious “zombie meat”? Okay, it’s really beef jerky — blue beef jerky, mind you — marketed as zombie meat in Japan. Yummy. (Pink Tentacle)

Coming this week to Blu-ray: Lucio Fulci’s City of the Living Dead (and a lot of other stuff without any zombies in it). (Dread Central)

Another day, another Walking Dead casting. The latest addition to the cast is Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), but no word on his role. (Bloody Disgusting)

Edit: No, Brandon Routh is NOT in Walking Dead. (Twitter)

If you like zombie webcomics, you’ll probably enjoy this interview with John Wigger and Bill Mofield, co-creators of webcomic Zombie Roomie. (The Zed Word)

Get the scoop on the new indie zombie game Class 3 Outbreak, which uses Google Maps in some interesting ways. (A World on Fire)

Some Salvation Army members get murdered and come back as a zombie army in Zombie God Squad. It’s written, there’s a teaser trailer, but it may or may not be made right away. It looks promising, so let’s hope it happens. The teaser trailer can be found below. (Quiet Earth)

Seems Resident Evil: Afterlife could have been subtitled “Attack of the Clones” as we’ll be getting a whole lot of Milla clone super soldiers. (io9)

After Dark is teaming with SyFy to do some original movies. Cool. Two of them look to be zombie-esque. Cooler! Those would be Re-Kill, about a task force of zombie killers facing a second outbreak of the undead and Husk, about reanimated human scarecrows (whatever, a reanimated human in a scarecrow outfit is just a zombie in hayseed clothes). Teaser trailer for all eight embedded below. (Bloody Disgusting)

Here’s another interview with Roger Ma, author of The Zombie Combat Manual (but make sure you read my interview with him first, and enter to win a copy of the book). (Gothamist)
