We’ve got pictures and news from a zombie crawl that took place Memorial Day weekend in Brooklyn. Actually, more than one source reported on this. (Gothamist, CBS Local)

Here’s a nice photo gallery from a zombie beach party that took place this past weekend at Ashbury Park. (Ashbury Park Press)

After the break, check out the trailer for Ace the Zombie, about a recently infected member of the undead who’s fighting for his civil rights. (Dread Central)

The box art for Dead Island has finally been released after previous concepts were recalled due to graphic images. The new one is pretty graphic too but doesn’t have a zombie hanging from a tree. (Dread Central)

The Walking Dead is currently casting Hershel Greene, his daughter Maggie, and farmhand Otis for the new season of the popular zombie show. I guess that means season two takes place on Hershel’s farm. (Bloody Disgusting)

The popular Wii shooter House of the Dead: Overkill is coming to the PS3 using the new “move” controllers and promises a high definition, extra bloody, zombie shooting good time. (Kotaku)

Here’s a few more details and some nice quotes from the team that created I Am Lonely, the short film that won at Cannes this year. (Islington Gazette)

If you love fake history, or real history depending on how paranoid and gullible you are, then you’ll love Zombies vs. Nazis: A Lost History of the Walking Dead, a book which accurately describes the efforts of Hitler’s army to produce an army of undead soldiers during World War 2. (Dread Central)

After the break, check out a nice scene from Re-Animator: The Musical, which is what I call good theater. (FEARnet)

Here’s yet another amazing trailer for the upcoming game Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Check it out after the break. (Buy Zombie)

Zombie short film I Am Lonely has won at the Cannes film festival, based off of internet voting guidelines. Congratulations! (London24)

Just a quick news update that A Little Bit Zombie, the film we recently reported about, begins filming Monday. (The Sudbury Star)

After the break, check out the trailer for A Plague So Pleasant, which breaks the mold of conventional zombie films by portraying zombies that don’t attack humans unless provoked. Seems interesting enough. (Buy Zombie)

If you really love, or really, really, (really) hate your girlfriend, then for about ten American dollars you can buy her this horrible looking Left 4 Dead boomer necklace. Good luck sleeping on the couch. (Kotaku)

Okeechobee County in Florida has a 75 page plan for surviving the zombie apocalypse. Since it’s near Palm Beach, I’m going to go out on a limb and say page one is “feed the retirees to the zombies.” (Palm Beach Post)

First we learned that Joe Hill, the son of Stephen King, would be co-writing an episode of The Walking Dead next season. Well apparently his love for zombies doesn’t stop there because he just sold his story Twittering From the Circus of the Undead to Mandalay pictures. (Screen Junkies)

Here’s a nice preview for issue three of the relaunched supernatural title Xombi, which occasionally has something to do with zombies. (io9)

Also in comic book teaser news today, here’s a few pages from this week’s issue of The Walking Dead, which picks up after a VERY dramatic cliffhanger. (Buy Zombie)

We got an e-mail from Grey Gecko press to let us know that The Dying of the Light, the first in a planned trilogy of zombie books from author Jason Kristopher, will go on sale June 1. They’re currently having a pre-sale so head over to their site to get the details.

The University of South Carolina is now teaching a class that discusses the hidden layers and true meanings of popular zombie films. Let’s hope they stay away from a few of the “lower quality” works in the genre and just stick to Romero. (Midlands Connect)

After the break, check out the trailer for Shouf Shouf Zombibi, which is a Dutch horror film that apparently has zombies, gore, and god knows what else. (Quiet Earth)

First off, I want to give a warm welcome to all the new readers that found us through twitter since “zombie apocalypse” started trending. I’m glad twitter trends finally proved useful. You’ll love it here, we promise.

Second, I just want to direct your attention to Cory’s post regarding the Fourth Annual Zombie Movie Marathon Month which takes place in June, just two short weeks away. We’re pulling out all the stops and it’s going to be awesome.

Now on with the news…

Cannes has been giving zombies a lot of love this past week, and another movie we’re excited about is Infected. While the title seems as generic as possible, the premise is actually pretty cool. It’s about zombies (and Michael Madsen) but they’re not undead. They’re aware of what they’re doing, they just can’t control it. I’m keeping an eye out for this one. (Dread Central)

After the break, check out yet another Cannes hit in the short film series, a fun little zombie themed claymation movie. (Kotaku)

We’ve got a few more production updates and some rather peaceful images from the upcoming movie REC 3: Genesis.  (Bloody Disgusting)

While the title is too long and upsets me (it has nothing to do with Romero or Princesses), I’m still obliged to share the first official trailer (after the break) for World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2. (Dread Central)

Jon Bernthal (Shane) from The Walking Dead chimes in with a few quotes regarding the new season coming later this year. There’s some major spoilers if you haven’t read the comics yet. Also if you haven’t read the first six issues of The Walking Dead comic book series, go buy the first trade after you finish reading today’s post. (Fangoria)

Cory sent me a link to an article from The A.V. Club (which is his awesome day job btw) which contains a good review and summary for Wild Zero, a rock and roll horror movie featuring the Japanese band Guitar Wolf. It’s a good read so check it out. (The A.V. Club)

ZMM 4.0: Zombie Movie Marathon 4.0

Posted by Cory Casciato On May - 19 - 2011

Zombie Movie Marathon 4
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since last year’s Zombie Movie Marathon month, but here we are, with June just days away. Due to a lack of time I had considered skipping the marathon this year, until I realized, that’s just crazy talk. So, as it has been the past three years, June will be a month of undead action: 30 days, 30 movies, countless undead. Let the rejoicing commence.

This year, my Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse co-pilot Johnathon Brock will be joining me. We’ll be watching the same movie, on the same days, sometime even at the same time (maybe). Instead of last year’s daily updates (definitely no time for that), we’ll be doing a once-a-week podcast wrap up of that week’s zombie films. We may also live blog or live tweet some of them, if there’s interest and we can work out the logistics.

We’re also forgoing the themes of the last two years, apart from a general theme of “Johnathon catches up on the classics,” since he’s somehow missed seeing a number of all-time greats (such as the original Dawn of the Dead—for shame, Johnathon, for shame). This will mean a lot of repeats from past years and other, non-marathon viewing times for me, but I’m down with that. A lot of these are, after all, classics, totally worth seeing again. And I’ll also be catching up on some recent stuff that I missed out on (such as Resident Evil: Afterlife—for shame, Cory, for shame). And we’ll be filling in the cracks with stuff that’s available on Netflix Instant Watch, stuff from my voluminous catalog, and stuff recommended by you, our faithful readers. After the break, you can find the list of this year’s movies, both those that we’ve settled on and those still in the “maybe” pile. And please, leave us a comment about what else we should watch this year.

Dame (and what a dame she is…) Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, and Gillian “X Files” Anderson are set to star in the zombie “costume drama” The Curse of the Buxom Strumpet. This is one movie I will not miss, as it involves three of my favorite British actors and zombies. (Metro UK)

If you’ve got up to six friends that love zombies, then you’ll be in for a great party when you buy The Walking Dead board game, which goes on sale later this year for about forty dollars. (MTV)

After the break, check out the latest teaser trailer for Dead Island and soak in the zombie killing joy mixed with a cool island breeze. (Den of Geek)

As if my earlier British zombie movie wasn’t enough for you undead fans, it seems that the zombie book Paul is Dead: The British Zombie Invasion, about the zombie Beatles taking the world by storm, is set for a mockumentary style movie adaptation. (Bloody Disgusting)

Goldilocks in Zombie Land got a small update this week and the crew behind the book alerted the fans that it will be on sale May 27 at Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas with a variant cover. It will be available from ComiXology after that. (Buy Zombie)

Paul W.S. Anderson, the man who brought us three pretty damn good Resident Evil movies and one great one, finally revealed the secret of his muse. He actually gets hours and hours of game play footage from kids playing the game from start to finish and uses that as inspiration. (Kotaku)

After the break, check out Hungry Like A Tiger, a zombie music video from hipster Portland band Jared Mees and the Grown Children. (Paste Magazine)

Author Ray Hensley sent us an e-mail to let us know that his book Get Kilt: A Zombie Pill is now available from Amazon in ebook format.

Here’s an interesting look at one writer’s hour well spent playing Dead Island. This is the second official game play article that makes the game seem like it will deliver everything promised. (Kotaku)

If you love comic books, check out this seven page preview of issue two of Zombies vs Robots: Undercity. (io9)

Plants vs Zombies hits the android marketplace May 30. The catch is that you have to get the game from Amazon marketplace. While that sucks, a nice incentive is that they’re giving it away for free for one day only during launch. (Buy Zombie)

Eric Balfour, who starred in the travesty that was Skyline and had a notable death in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, is stepping away from the spotlight to direct his first feature film, a live action adaptation of the indie comic Jesus Hates Zombies. (Bloody Disgusting)
