Sorry for the delay with the news this week kiddies. I’ve been working hard preparing for the Geek Media Expo in Nashville, TN this weekend. If you’re going to be in the area you should definitely check it out and come say hello. I’ll be at the Trouble Ticket/FRUIT! Comic booth with my wife and we’ll be selling art, comic books, sketch cards, and doing commissions.

But enough of that! On with the news!

Our own Cory Casciato recently did an interview with Brian Peck, who played the loveable mohawked punker Scuz in the classic film Return of the Living Dead. They discuss the fan love for the series, conventions, and the recently released documentary More Brains! A Return to the Living Dead. (A.V. Club)

Check out amateur publicist and zombie killer Milla Jovovich filming a pretty epic car crash stunt for Resident Evil: Retribution from her phone and really selling how awesome it is by swearing in German (Kotaku)

You can also check out (after the break) six minutes of footage from Re-Kill, a found footage zombie apocalypse flick that shows a lot of promise. (Dread Central)

Swords of the Dead, a novel that’s supposedly on it’s way to becoming the next big ninja/zombie motion picture of all time, has posted the first three chapters for you to check out and hopefully enjoy. (Buy Zombie)

The CDC is following up their zombie post earlier this year (which apparently really boosted the blog’s net worth) with a free to read online comic called Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic. I’m a fan, but let’s hope they’re still focusing on, you know, stopping disease outbreaks… (Comic Book Resources)

It looks like the smash hit Zombieland will be returning to it’s intended origins and will (hopefully) be picked up as a television series next year. I’m looking forward to actually seeing the “zombie kill of the week.” (Ace Showbiz)

Project Zomboid, a pretty slick zombie apocalypse survival game using the Minecraft “start playing in the alpha release” method of fundraising had a major setback this week when the developers studio was broken into and computers containing the most recent version of the game code were stolen. Personally, this sounds like a cover-up for some big government conspiracy. (Shack News)

George A. Romero might want nothing to do with The Walking Dead, but apparently he wants everything to do with The Zombie Autopsies, a science based zombie novel which he’s currently working to bring to the silver screen. (Zombie Research Society)

Zombie in a Penguin Suit is a short film that’s taken the internet by storm this week. It’s pretty awesome, and you can check it out after the break and also read a nice interview with the writer and director Chris Russell. (Fast Company)

Obviously we’re going to start off the day with the Walking Dead news from the weekend, of which there was a lot. Also the podcast will be returning very soon where we’ll recap the previous episode of the show and discuss other things zombie.

Hornady Manufacturing has just released it’s line of “Zombie Max” ammunition which is guaranteed to be the most effective firearm round for dispatching of the undead horde. (Pete Thomas Outdoors)

Undead Labs has released some new info about their upcoming zombie MMO and it looks like it’s going to be pretty epic. If the rumor mill is true then when you die in the game, you’re dead, for good, until you return as a zombie. (MMO Crunch)

Please Stay Calm, a location based iOS zombie active reality game, has made it’s way from Canada to the US and is now available for purchase from the US app store. (San Fransisco Chronicle)

Dr. Steven Schlozman, psychiatrist and associate professor at Harvard Medical School, discussed how to survive a zombie apocalypse in his speech How to Survive (the Inevitable) Zombie Attack (in 8 Simple Steps). (Utah Statesman)

We like to cover the big zombie walks, and the annual Omaha zombie walk in Nebraska this Saturday is one of the biggest, and expecting a turnout of around 3000 so check it out. (Omaha World Herald)

AMY is a pretty awesome and unique take on the zombie apocalypse and it hits the PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall. Check out the trailer after the break. (Buy Zombie)

Also after the break check out the trailer for Dead Season, a good looking zombie movie that’s currently looking for a buyer. (Bloody Disgusting)

I guess the best way to start off the news is with a truckload of Walking Dead updates

A SWAT team in Budapest recently raided the World War Z set to confiscate a cache of REAL, FUNCTIONAL weapons that were brought in under the assumption they were movie props. This is just another hurdle for a movie that is reportedly over budget and past deadline. (Examiner)

An accident on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution has caused injuries to sixteen zombie extras but thankfully no one was killed. (Dread Central)

If you’re looking to spice up your Halloween then you should check out these zombie themed pumpkin carving templates to terrify small children in your neighborhood. (Dread Central)

It’s just been confirmed that Johann Urb will play Leon Kennedy in the new Resident Evil movie. I have no idea who he is, and I’ve never seen a movie he’s been in, but I guess he looks like Leon Kennedy. (Kotaku)

October 8 is World Zombie Day so make sure to see if there’s any good zombie happenings in your hometown. (Examiner)

For those that live in The Walking Dead country (I.E. Atlanta, Georgia) the Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse is back for year two boasting a 100,000 square foot zombie playground. (Dread Central)

It looks like Blake Lively has passed on playing the lead role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I mean seriously, why did she pass? Her last movie was Green Lantern. I know I was bashing on her getting the offer, but really? REALLY? (Filmonic)

Fed-Ex recently did a pretty awesome commercial about the zombie apocalypse. You can check it out after the break, and also check out the cool behind the scenes video that goes with it. (Dread Central)

I figured they’d release them slowly, but apparently all of the new The Walking Dead webisodes are online and available to view. Check them out after the break. While you’re at it, check out these photos from episode one of the new season as well. (Dread Central)

You’ve got to check out this 5K zombie obstacle course that may be coming to your city and see if you’ve REALLY got what it takes to survive the zombie apocalypse. It’s time to put your money where your feet are.

After the break, check out the latest trailer for season two of The Walking Dead. The reviews are already coming in for episode one for the new season and they’re saying that it’s going to definitely top the last one. (FEARnet)

There’s some updates and a new video (after the break) for the Left 4 Dead fan film that’s slowly taking the world by storm. I hope they get a kickstarter page and make this movie a reality. (…ology)

Today’s Groupon (man I hate that name) is for a much discounted entry into the second annual zomBcon later this year in Seattle. It was pretty epic last year so if you’re going back, or even on the fence, this is the deal for you. It’s TODAY ONLY though, so go check it out after reading today’s news. (Buy Zombie)

So apparently after two or three awesome actresses (including Natalie Portman, the film’s producer) passed on the lead role of Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, they’ve sent a call out to up and coming starlet Blake Lively. While I’m not a huge fan of her body of work, at least the movie is (possibly) back on track. (Bloody Disgusting)

I guess Resident Evil: Retribution is going to feature a lot of flashback scenes, because it’s just been confirmed that Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising her role from the original film. (Dread Central)

After the break, check out this nifty behind the scenes video on how the wardrobe for an undead extra in The Walking Dead comes together. (Buy Zombie)

If you’re in Nashville the weekend of October 8 then you have to check out the annual zombie walk which supports the Second Harvest food bank. It’s a fun event for a good cause. (The Oracle)

This is a really cool map that shows the general layout of zombie related media over the internet spread across the world. Definitely a good resource when z-day finally arrives. (The Guardian)

So it looks like AMC is giving the green light to the Talking Dead, a talkshow style series that will air after each episode of The Walking Dead where media nerd God Chris Hardwick will interview cast and crew about the series and recap the show. (Deadline)

Speaking of The Walking Dead, we’ve got all the details on a new mysterious cast member, a former Rescue Me alum, who’s not a part of the comic book universe. (Daily Blam)

On the heels of their amazingly popular article earlier this year, the CDC has declared October to be Zombie Preparedness Month, and plan to release a lot more undead awareness onto the world that will tie in to real life emergency guidelines. (The Fort Scott Tribune)

After the break, check out the trailer for Zombie Apocalypse, which is Ving Rhames’ third film entry as a fighter of the undead horde. (28 Days Later Analysis)

Apparently in medieval times it was customary to shove rocks into the mouths of the dead so that they would not return from the grave. Even back then people knew the zombie problem was indeed, a factual problem. Check out this archeological video after the break and see how they did things in the early ‘700s. (Huffington Post)

If you think your kids throwing a party while you’re out of town is bad, imagine your daughter inviting over a hundred and fifty bloodthirsty zombies over to completely destroy your home. That’s what one aspiring film maker did while she was shooting the indie flick The Dying Breed. (The Star)

After the break, check out an all new trailer for the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. (FEARnet)

Here’s some nice little behind the scenes videos which were captured during the filming of R.I.P.D. (Dread Central)

After the break, check out another cool behind the scenes clip from World War Z showing off the panic stricken crowd as it flees the incoming zombie horde. (ShockYa)

It’s cool to see that celebrities aren’t immune to practical jokes. Apparently Matt Damon was so enthusiastic about having zombies in the film Contagion that director Steven Soderberg hired a zombie extra to attack him on set. Let’s hope that clip makes the DVD special features. (New York Post)

While we try to stay out of some topics, we feel obligated to report the news that local Boston clergy was pretty peeved when the crew behind the upcoming film R.I.P.D. decided to film on 9/11 outside the church, which supposedly angered and interrupted remembrance ceremonies in progress. (Herald Sun)

It’s certainly the end times as a virus has been identified in certain caterpillars that cause them to go into a zombie like state, crawling to the top of a tree after eating, to let the sun melt them into goo which then drips down and infects other caterpillars at the base of a tree. I speak for the IZA when I say that’s some creepy shit. (Inquisitr)

As a survival nut, I’m always looking for the next advantage in the zombie apocalypse. I’m pleased to see this dumpster which has been turned into a rather nice home, complete with secure locks, a place to cook, sleep, and go to the bathroom. It even has power and running water. Check out the video after the break and go find an abandoned dumpster to turn into the ultimate portable zombie shelter. (io9)

Producers Glen Mazzara and Gale Anne Hurd, and zombie lord Robert Kirkman sit down to discuss season two of The Walking Dead and answer some important questions. (FEARnet)

Colin Salmon, the guy who got sliced into toothpick appetizers in a laser room in the first Resident Evil movie, is apparently back in the latest film. I have no idea either… (Bloody Disgusting)

Dead Island, like all new games released these days, is already set to make some easy cash with downloadable content that realistically should have been in the game to begin with. That’s not a comment on Dead Island specifically, just new games in general. I hate to rant, but I’m sick of a game which already costs $60 at launch costing me another $30 three months after it’s initial release. Here’s a pro tip kids… Wait a year, just wait a year, you can do it, and then buy the game with all of the DLC for about $40. (Buy Zombie)
