We got an e-mail from Grey Gecko press to let us know that The Dying of the Light, the first in a planned trilogy of zombie books from author Jason Kristopher, will go on sale June 1. They’re currently having a pre-sale so head over to their site to get the details.

The University of South Carolina is now teaching a class that discusses the hidden layers and true meanings of popular zombie films. Let’s hope they stay away from a few of the “lower quality” works in the genre and just stick to Romero. (Midlands Connect)

After the break, check out the trailer for Shouf Shouf Zombibi, which is a Dutch horror film that apparently has zombies, gore, and god knows what else. (Quiet Earth)

This is definitely the ultimate zombie apocalypse dream house. It completely collapses onto itself to form a concrete bunker surrounded by a concrete wall with a drawbridge and a moat. (FEARnet)

An open source video game team is looking for coders to help develop their latest zombie apocalypse game. Head over to the forums linked here if you’ve got the skills to join them. Note: This doesn’t seem to be a paying job. (gamedev.net)

AMC (who probably felt bad about turning him into the most hated man on the show) put together a nice promotional interview for Jon Bernthal, who plays Shane on The Walking Dead. (AMC)

Actress Amber Heard, who played the girl who Jesse Eisenberg had a crush on until he had to beat her with a toilet lid in Zombieland, recently came out at a GLAAD event she attended with her girlfriend. Good for her. (Fort Worth Weekly)

The official Walking Dead season one ratings have been ranked, and it’s now carries the highest seasonal ratings average in basic cable television since 1993. Basically it’s spread faster than an actual zombie outbreak would. (Dread Central)

I love when science meets science fiction. Popular Mechanics recently penned a great article on the facts of the head shot, from the special effects of The Walking Dead to the actual science behind them. (Popular Mechanics)

In late breaking news, actor Charlie Sheen is confirmed to play a zombie in season two of The Walking Dead. The rumor was confirmed by his representatives. (socyberty.com)

Apparently the kiwis don’t take kindly to a charity zombie walk for victims of brain damage as it has received many complaints from the locals. (Stuff New Zealand)

Moving to zombie events that are actually supported by locals, there’s one happening in Lansing, Michigan on October 22. It’s a zombie prom/food drive, so dress up in your undead formal best and grab some creamed corn for those less fortunate than you.

We’ve got an early announcement for the Dead Space 2 port coming to the iphone in January that will bridge the gap between the first and second games of the series. (Kotaku)

EA Games has dismissed any fears that Dead Space 2 will be purely action packed and promises that it will contain just as many fear-inducing moments as the original. (Kotaku)

Zombies get ready to invade the peaceful south during a zombie walk in Gadsden, Alabama on Saturday, October 16. Then you can catch a stage production of Night of the Living Dead several times between October 22 and 30. (Gadsden Times)

I’m the new guy and I’ll be bringing you the daily feed, tackling the up-to-the-minute news of the unyielding undead and providing the occasional review as well. I’m very happy to be here and glad for this opportunity to address such a vital matter of national importance as the inevitable zombie apocalypse. At the New York Comic Con, Rockstar Games has a playable demo of the new “Undead Nightmare” expansion for their game Red Dead Redemption. Zombies and cowboys are a great combination, sayeth the preview. (Kotaku)

Natalie Portman will stay on as producer of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but has given up her role in the film. More “scheduling conflicts” apparently. (Entertainment Weekly )

The living dead will invade Newark, Delaware (or more of them anyway) for a zombie festival on October 16. (Delaware Online)

We’re all bummed that Dead Space 2 doesn’t hit shelves until January 2011. Thankfully, there’s a sneak peek of Dead Space: Ignition, the downloadable “interactive comic-style” prequel, which drops October 13 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 (Kotaku)

GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus will be kicking off the Toronto Zombie Walk. Combining zombies with the beasts of hell sounds like a great idea… (Fear Net)

It’s a sad day for collegiate English professors and fans of the undead as it was just announced that director David O. Russel has walked off of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, due to scheduling conflicts with Natalie Portman. (New York Magazine – Vulture)

Wentworth Miller (former Prison Break star) discusses role similarities and the challenges of playing videogame icon Chris Redfield in Resident Evil: Afterlife. (Metro News)
