The Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse

Fashion Zombie is back! And it brought a sweet shirt, naturally. This is yet another one of those “only available for a limited time” places offering cool t-shirts, and their first Fashion Zombie entry features a nice mix of the living dead and typography. As you can see, they’ve spelled out “zombie” using, well, zombies. This is one of the less-gruesome, more-cutesy zombie shirts, suitable for draping yourself in at children’s parties, company picnics, or while trying to pick up the cute girl/guy in horn-rimmed glasses at the coffee shop. But act fast! It’s only available for about 10 more hours, for the entirely reasonable cost of $11.

You probably won’t look as incredibly hot as the model wearing this week’s Fashion Zombie pick when you wear it (unless you do, in which case send pictures and we’ll run them!), but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a damn awesome shirt. It’s called Moon Ghoul and it’s by artist Dave Cook, designed especially for Zombie!

In case you’ve forgotten (or haven’t read the site that long), the Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse has a long history with Zombie!, an art/rock project by Eric Weiss. We helped him publicize his plight when Rob Zombie’s dick lawyers were after him to change his name (Rob Zombie personally intervened and called his over-enthusiastic lawyer army off) and one of the other Zombie! designs was featured in My Favorite Zombie Things, a feature photo post I did a while ago that was something of  precursor to Fashion Zombie. Now, it’s time to feature another one of his designs (which is also a personal favorite of mine).

Let’s face it, when it comes to zombies, many of us have wondered how the other half lives. Sure, it’s noble to ask your buddy to put one in your head so you don’t come back, but deep down we all kinda hope he’ll miss and we’ll get a chance to wander around all dead-eyed and hungry. And that makes today’s shirt a must-have for any zombie fan who’s honest with themselves about this unspoken desire.

Nothing says “zombie” like something that’s back from the dead, even if the thing that’s back from the dead is an ages-old (in Internet terms) meme such as “All your base are belong to us.” Remember that one? (If not, use Google to edumacate yourself already!) And here it is, back from the dead and freshly zombified in the form of a “All your brains are belong to us” zombie shirt.

This week’s Fashion Zombie pick has a simple, clear message: Kill, or be food. When the inevitable zombie apocalypse comes, that’s rule number one! And the design leans toward the relatively subtle side — well, there’s no gore or viscera on the shirt, anyway. Just a little crest over your heart with crossed chainsaws under the word Dezombifier and that simple, inspirational message (plus the company’s initials, TTOFS).

The back features your nutritional info, which is a useful shopping guide for any zombies on the prowl. This week we take a look at a pro-labor zombie sentiment, in the form of this fine poster T-shirt (that is, a poster-style design on a T-shirt) advertising for the Zombie miners union local 432. Hey, zombie labor needs to collectively bargain, just like everyone else does. Plus, you can pair this with your “Join us for a better death” shirt for a week of good ol’ fashioned socialist zombie sentiment.

This shirt (designed by Mark Bloom, if the name on the poster is to be believed) is another Etsy find, from the mind and store of Etsy user Zed’s Zombie Ranch. You can own it for $20 + $3 shipping in the US. A little steep, perhaps, but it’s a DIY/indie thing, so it’s not like you’re being ripped off by some soulless megacorp. And presumably, it’s all made with unionized zombie labor, so there’s that.

I like to call this week’s Fashion Zombie “breaking in” and it’s got something of a double meaning. On the one hand, it’s clearly a zombie breaking in to your carefully fortified house. On the other, it’s one of the premiere selections from Above the Pants, the new T-shirt wing of the excellent zombie site Buy Zombie. So, you see, they’re kind of breaking in to the T-shirt business. Ahem. Pardon my predilection for terrible puns. I love them almost as much as I love zombies.

When you need your zombies adorably cute, look no further than today’s Fashion Zombie pick: the Zombee. This sad little undead insect is sure to buzz his way right into your heart. Heck, my wife might even like this one (I’ll ask her when she gets home). If you have a taste for terrible puns, as I do, you’re sure to love it even more.

The moment I saw this shirt, I knew it was this week’s Fashion Zombie pick. It’s titled “Every Night I Have the Same Dream” and I love zombie dreams. Plus, it’s a comic, on a shirt! How can you go wrong?

It’s yet another Threadless design, but I assure you, I am not unduly favoring them. They just have a fuckload of awesome shirts. This one is $20, a bit over my preferred price range but I may have to make an exception for reasons of undue awesomeness.
