There’s a slew of DVD release info hitting, some of it contradicting previously asserted info (fun!). We’ve got word of October 13 for Pontypool on DVD (it hit on-demand today for you cable folks) which contradicts the July 21 date DVD Active reports. If I can get anyone at IFC to respond to my queries, I’ll get to the bottom of this. In less confusing news, REC is still slated for June 14 and grave-robbers-meet-zombie-gangsters flick The Crypt is coming to DVD August 11 after a limited theatrical release June 25. You can get a few additional details here. (Fangoria)

The talkmeisters at Fangoria Radio (Sirius channel 108/XM channel 139, satellite radio folks starting at 10 p.m.) will have Pontypool director Bruce McDonald and star Steven Hattie in for a chat. (Fangoria)

If you’re wondering what to get me for Christmas (in July), this oil painting of a toy zombie in front of the Seattle Space Needle is perfect, and will only set you back $32.99. (Fangoria)

A sequel to Greek zombie movie Evil (this one apparently called Evil in the Time of Heroes) is coming. There’s a teaser trailer after the break. (Quiet Earth via a Greek blog)

Who says there’s no new ideas in the land of the dead? The standard zombie tropes get twisted up with amnesia-like symptoms that alter the very perception of reality in the no-budget thinker Fugue State. I’m instantly intrigued. And there’s a teaser (which doesn’t really do the idea justice) after the break.

Finally, for those following the Zombie Movie Marathon Month saga, the final film list, in rough order (possibly final, but may undergo minor sequence changes) is also after the break. When we meet again, Zombie Movie Marathon Month will be upon us!

The July 14 U.S. DVD release of the great Spanish zombie film REC is approaching soon. Today the DVD art was revealed, and man does it look like a first-time Photoshop user with no design skills created it. We can only hope someone in charge sees this crap and insists on a do-over. (DVD Active)

The mutant-femme-zombies meet dudes-behaving-badly flick Doghouse is set for release in the U.K. June 12. There’s a new poster for it, which looks fantastic. (Dread Central)

The latest iteration of Nazi-occult first-person shooter franchise Wolfenstein comes out August 4, which almost certainly means more Nazi zombies. And if you like your zombies in space, you’ll have to wait almost two months longer because Dead Space: Extraction, a prequel to last year’s hit Dead Space, comes out September 29.

After the break, there’s a trailer for frozen Nazi-zombie comedy Dead Snow, coming to VOD (video on demand) June 12.

Four brand-new clips of language-virus zombie flick Pontypool hit the Internet today. I’ve embedded one after the break, courtesy of Dread Central, and put links to the page with the other three. Can’t say much about them, because I haven’t watched them. See, I’m one of those weird, old-fashioned types that prefers to not spoil the best bits of a film before actually seeing it. But don’t let that stop you. If you can wait, it comes to VOD (video on demand) this Friday, making me wish I had cable TV. (Dread Central)

That sub-$100 budget zombie film Colin that’s been getting a bunch of buzz gets a bit more, with a brief story from Fangoria, including some words with the creator. And there’s a trailer, after the break. It looks intriguing, but cheap. Which I guess isn’t exactly shocking, is it? (Fangoria)

Live in Austin, Texas? Visiting June 13? If you answered “yes,” get thee to the Alamo Drafthouse for a special screening of Night of the Creeps, with director Fred Dekker and a bunch of the cast. The reunion will be filmed for the upcoming special edition DVD release, so you can point out your head’s silhouette to friends for years to come. Tickets go on sale tomorrow. (Fangoria)

We’ve got another zombie apocalypse incoming! This one is called Autumn, and it’s a story about a plague that kills basically everybody in one very bad day. Then, in an even worse day for the survivors, the dead come back. It looks to be coming this fall (surprise, eh?), it has David Carradine and it sounds cool to me. Bloody Disgusting gets credit for spotting it and you can get more details and a trailer (unembeddable, sorry) at the official site. (Bloody Disgusting)

The upcoming issue of Rue Morgue has a piece on Dead Snow and a complementary piece on the fetid swamp that is the Nazi zombie subgenre, plus a piece about the Zombeatles and lots of other cool horror stuff. (Rue Morgue @ MySpace)

PopCap games are saying that the whimsical tower-defense zombie game Plants vs. Zombies (review coming as soon as I can stop playing long enough to write it!) is their best selling game ever. They’ve also got some more details on its origins. (Gamasutra)

It seems just a month ago I was reporting that Resident Evil 5 had sold 1.5 million copies (because it was), but today, Capcom bigwigs say that number is up to five million. Seems fishy, but who knows? In any case, RE5? It’s sold a lot. (Kotaku)

Stealing from the dead is never a hot idea, because as every reader of this site knows, sometimes they refuse to stay dead. Six crooks learn that the hard way in The Crypt (coming June 25), and you can get a taste of it with the trailer, embedded after the break. (Dread Central)

Cannes is generating a buzz for Colin, a microbudget (under $100 if the makers are to be believed!) zombie think piece told from the point of view of a zombie that’s trying to figure out what’s happened to him. It’s a brilliant idea that’s been tried, with limited success, a few times before. Hopefully more info (like a distributor and/or release date) will come out soon. (Times Online)

If you are a Boston resident, you can rest easy knowing your police department is firmly committed to giving you the truth if and when a zombie attack occurs. (Dumb as a Blog)

If you’ve never heard of Zombie Tales 2061, a unique zombie comic that tells of undead supremacy in the far future, your chance to catch up is nigh as a collection of the three short tales that make up the saga is coming this July. You can watch an interview with the writer (Oscar-nominated screenwriter Kim Krizan) and see a ten-page preview here. (Comic Book Resources)

The cover art for the September 25 release of Creepshow on BluRay has been revealed. And it is exactly the old cover art, which is fine. Also, no special features, which is bullshit since there are pre-existing special features that could be added and they are going to ask us to pony up a premium for the hi-def. Why do studios do this? (Dread Central)

In case you were wondering, there was nothing else posted today, just this news post. Fear not, there’s more stuff coming soon.

Blend up psychedelia, sleazy exploitation, sexual deviance and zombies (of course) and you get something like the upcoming Someone’s Knocking on the Door. Quiet Earth has details, intriguing trailer is embedded after the jump (Quiet Earth).

The first stills for the political zombie comedy Zombies of Mass Destruction (which will screen at the Los Angeles Film Festival) have emerged. They look decent, and if you head over to Bloody Disgusting, you can see them. (Bloody Disgusting)

If you’ve somehow avoided playing Resident Evil in any of its myriad formats and want to rectify that in classic PSOne style on your PS3 or PSP, good news: It’s coming as a download. (Kotaku)

Swine flu has once again been linked to the zombie apocalypse, this time by preventing Dead Rising 2 from appearing at E3. See, the Japanese government is warning against international travel thanks to this swine flu business and Capcom is taking that seriously. Wimps. (Kotaku)

Finally, a way to combine crosswords and the obsessive love of zombie shooter Left 4 Deadthe official Left 4 Dead crossword. (Left 4 Dead Official Blog)

Barely news, but there’s a new Pontypool one-sheet out. (Bloody Disgusting)

After the jump, the gloriously fucked up and entirely NSFW trailer for Someone’s Knocking at the Door.

First I’ve heard of it, but word is post-production wrapped at the end of April on The Dead Matter, a “supernatural thriller inspired by EC Comics, Creepshow, and Hammer Films” that stars Tom Savini and  a bunch of character actors. The trailer’s got some autopsied corpses walking around, a seance, maybe some vampires — looks like fun, in other words. After the break, I’ve got the trailer for you. (Horror-Movies.ca)

As the original poster over at Kotaku pointed out, the biggest surprise about the clip of Rock Band 2 that shows the characters of Left 4 Dead playing the ultimately appropriate “Pretend We’re Dead” by L7 is that it took this long for it to exist. Enjoy it after the break and kudos to the person who created it! (Kotaku)

Speaking of Left 4 Dead, the official blog subtly suggests you might be interested in voting for it in the 27th annual Golden Joystick awards, a suggestion I heartily endorse. (Left 4 Dead Official Blog)

It was news yesterday, but I foolishly forgot it, so please forgive me. Rob Sacchetto’s Zombie Daily blog, an art blog of the man’s zombie sketches (he did this lovely portrait of me, for example) resumed after a brief hiatus to finish his book called The Zombie Handbook: How to Identify the Living Dead and Survive the Coming Zombie Apocalypse (pre-order it here). Which presumably means the book is done, right? (Zombie Daily)

In non-zombie news, I wrote a review elsewhere of the ridiculous shark vs. octopus movie Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, if you like that sort of thing. And don’t forget, two clips after the break!

It’s hard to call it news, since it went online last November, but it is the slowest zombie news day ever, so enjoy this interview with World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide author Max Brooks. (Rocket Llama World Headquarters)

There’s a big story on George A. Romero in the upcoming 30th anniversary issue of Fangoria. As a strange sneak preview, the author posted a meandering outtake of him talking with Romero about the Oscars over sushi. I’ve helpfully embedded the clip after the break. (Fangoria)

Finally, there’s an intriguing short film called Arbeit Für Alle (Full Employment in English) headed for the festival circuit. It’s about a man, desperate for work, who takes a job as an entry-level zombie hunter and it looks promising. Trailer after the break. (Quiet Earth)

The fine folks at Fangoria have compiled a list of horror screenings around the U.S. and U.K. over the summer (mostly New York and L.A., but a few elsewhere too). The list includes some zombie classics (Return of the Living Dead) and new stuff (Reel Zombies), so it might be worth a look. (Fangoria)

The promising Deadgirl — that’s the one with the two guys who discover a sexy zombie in an abandoned asylum — is getting a theatrical release of some sort on July 24 as part of a “non-traditional event.” I have no idea what that means, and they aren’t saying yet. Guess we’ll have to wait and see… (Bloody Disgusting)

The third and final trailer for possibly she-zombie flick Doghouse is out. And it looks a lot like the other trailers I’ve seen. But I still put it after the jump, because why not? (Dread Central)

If you miss the 8-bit days of yore, check out Toxic Sonic Zombie Massacre, a retro-styled zombie-killing in-browser side-scrolling game reminiscent of Double Dragon, only, you know, with zombies. (Twitter @Zombie_Skool)

Enjoy this lovely slide show documenting what happens when zombies do Dallas, as 125 or so walking dead do a zombie, uh, walk for the Texas Frightmare weekend. (Dallas Observer)

If a banshee raised the dead, would those be zombies?  The story page for Damned by Dawn says “malevolent spirits” but they look corporeal enough in the trailer (embedded after the jump), and it’s a slooow news day so I guess we’ll see. (Horror-Movies.ca)

Another is-it-or-isn’t-it slice of zombie fare is Doghouse, coming to the U.K. on June 12 (and hopefully elsewhere later). This one has a village full of women afflicted with something that turns them into flesh-eating, monstrous freaks. Kind of like 28 Days Later on an estrogen OD, with more claws and teeth. You can judge for yourself if those are she-zombies when you watch the trailer (embedded after the jump). (Quiet Earth)
