There have been many milestones throughout the eighty-year history of the zombie in Western culture. In today’s world, where zombies are such a part of everyday life that every college campus is aswarm with games of Human vs. Zombie, zombies are used in advertising and we get a new zombie movie or game released every few months, it’s easy to forget our roots. To make sure that doesn’t happen, I’ve compiled a quick overview of ten great moments in zombie history, from the earliest days to modern times. Without these milestones, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Remember and rejoice.

Some clever computer folk dug into the guts of the new Left 4 Dead 2 DLC “The Passing” to get this list of upcoming Mutation game types. Are they all real? Only time will tell. (Destructoid)

Speaking of “The Passing,” there sure are a lot of cool Easter Eggs that nod to other zombie greats in the episode, covering everything from Shaun of the Dead to Plants vs. Zombies. (The Zed Word)

The classic “guy brings tragically killed girlfriend back from dead only to learn there are consequences” plot is the fuel for the movie Kiss the Abyss. Guys, you need to learn: never bring your girl back from the dead, it won’t end well. The trailer is embedded after the break and it looks great. (Quiet Earth)

St. Louis gets Con-Tamination 2010, a horror con that will feature a Day of the Dead cast reunion. It happens April 30 through May 2. (Dread Central)

Max Brooks reveals that the film adaptation of World War Z may be moving forward at last. Paramount has renewed the option, director Marc Foster is ready to go and they’re waiting for the latest draft of the screenplay by writer Matt Carnahan. (FEARnet)

Yesterday, word came down that Dead Rising 2 had co-op multiplayer. Today, video (non-embeddable, unfortunately) of it in action is available. And a preview, which reveals some of the plot points (main character Greene is motivated by a need to get anti-zombie drug for his kid), game mechanisms and more. (Kotaku)

The upcoming comic book miniseries Lot 13 is about a family facing all sorts of beasties, from zombies to giants. Artist Glenn Fabry describes it as “Romero meets Miyazaki.” Sold! (FEARnet)

There will be co-op play in Dead Rising 2, which is the best news I’ve heard about the game so far. There’s also some info on the Xbox 360 exclusive prologue, Dead Rising: Case Zero, which will bridge the gap in time and story between the initial game and DR2. (Kotaku)

The new Left 4 Dead 2 DLC episode “The Passing” will arrive Thursday, bringing with it the new rotating “Mutations” modes such as “Realism Versus” and “Chainsaw Massacre” which will change on a weekly basis. (Kotaku)

Also, the achievements for Left 4 Dead 2‘s new DLC have been revealed. (Official Left 4 Dead Blog)

Los Angeles will be overrun by zombies April 24 for the So.Cal ZombieWalk. (Dread Central)

The French cops vs. gangsters vs. zombies flick The Horde will show at COLCOA film festival April 24 in Los Angeles (28 Days Later: An Analysis)
